The Deep

Jesus was choosing disciples. He saw some men who were working really, really hard. They were fishing but getting nowhere! They had toiled all night and He saw that their nets were still empty. He called them when they were tired and burnt out. I love what He said to them:

"Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch."

There was a, "are You kidding me?" is Peter's response.

The deep was away from the shore. It was a long way from the pillow where Peter was longing to rest his head. He was plumb tuckered.

He responded with honesty.

"Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net."

Peter was about to witness a miracle because He got out of shallow waters and dared to fish in the deep . . . and obey  a word that was ridiculous in Peter's mind.

So many fish were caught they had to beckon another boat to come help them haul in the catch.

Harvest can be plentiful when we obey the voice of the One who knows where the catch is.

Peter, tired Peter, is now energized! He couldn't sleep if he had to.

He falls at the knees of Jesus and repents expelling the "I don't want to" out of his heart.

"Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!" Peter said to Jesus while bowing at his knees.

Jesus saw the fear in Peter's heart.

"Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men."

Where shall I put the net, Lord? Do You want me to move away from the safety of the shore and go out into the deep places in order to make the bigger catch. I am so easily swayed by the comfort of my pillow. Wherever You say, that is where I will go. I will follow You!
