"Anxiety does not empty tomorrow of its sorrows, but only empties today of its strength." Charles Spurgeon
How easy it is to weary myself with worry. I do not even need the devil's help. It is so easy to fret, to see into the future and presume what might happen. My heart becomes anxious, heavy, inconsolable with presumption. It is a weight too heavy for my soul.
We have been given a gift, the peace of God that passes all understanding, to guard our hearts and minds so that our souls will have strength to stand firm when the day of trouble actually appears. Our hope is in the God who has overcome every trouble. He is our peace. So I meditate on His promises, it keeps all worry at bay. "Let faith arise in my heart, O Lord, make me an overcomer! I choose to lay my anxieties at Your feet. I put my hope in You!"
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus." Philippians 4:6-7

I recently heard a woman share a definition for worry that I've never heard before: Worry is going into the future without God.
ReplyDeleteI had never thought about it quite in that way before. I also have been asking God for more trust and to erradicate worry. Thanks for your encouragement today!
