The Lord's Thanksgiving Day

"What are you doing Thanksgiving?" the well-meaning, caring, and loving ask me.

Lord, what are You doing today? People are celebrating all over the nation. Some have invited You to feast at their banqueting table, You are their special guest. They give pause to acknowledge you. You are being welcomed into thought and conversation.

You will be in homes today where You feel you have found Your resting place. You have been given the seat of honor at table, in heart. They will ask You to share Your desires,  You will have freedom to express concerns of Your heart. You will feel loved, embraced by those who gather. You will enjoy fellowship, the nurturing of heart to heart words.

Do Your eyes glisten, moistened with tears, as one brother exhorts another? Does Your heart swell with compassion when we embrace the hurting, the dying, the broken, those who share family name, and those we have brought in and claim as our very own?

How are you feeling about all that is going on today, Lord, are you rejoicing at the sound of our praises? Does our gratefulness bless Your heart?

Or do You feel like we talk about You as if You are not in the room?

Are You the lonely one in the crowd? The stranger? The one no one wants to sit by or get to know? Do You feel avoided?

Will You sit here by me? I want to know You more. Will You tell me Your thoughts? I want to hear them all.
Can we visit the hurting, the dying, the broken, together? Will You stay with me until I share with You the twenty billion reasons why I am so grateful? Let me tell you over and over why I love You so much. Please stay until we have made this Thanksgiving Day a joy for You. Please show me how.

  1. Oh Cheri, how precious your heart is to me. Yes, Lord, please sit by me and let me hear Your thoughts. I too long to know You more.

    Sharing in this invitation,
    Joy
