Words

Everywhere I turn, people are talking about words.

I have learned so much from what they are saying.

"Patience" . This is my word of the moment. I am learning great things about this intimidating word. I open my eyes every morning, and immediately I am greeted with fresh thoughts about it. I believe the thoughts come from heaven because I have never thought this way before. The lessons are stretching me into unfamiliar places. I wander into them longing to be a visitor, however the Lord desires for me to put down the tent peg and place a welcome mat at the threshold and stay awhile. So I linger with this word, patience.

I wrote about patience today on my other blog, then I made lunch. It was then that the blender threw up all over my kitchen. Creamy asparagus soup spewed all over me and all over my cabinets. While my arm and hand were burning, my tongue desired to be loosed from its tether. I resisted temptation to let it fly. My thoughts,  "opportunity to practice patience."

My son, the oldest, the writer, came by to visit for a moment. He shared a quote with me:

"The  difference between the right word and the almost right word is the difference between lightning and a lightning bug." Mark Twain.

We love to share things like this, he and I.

Mr. Twain was referring to writing when he shared his thoughts about words, but I think his quote can apply to life in general. Maybe not all the time, but sometimes . . . times when patience is needed.

"Tact is getting  your point across without stabbing someone with it." S. Zieve

Another quote that I need to remember.

Patience . . .  a word worth pondering and practicing.

  1. I read your other post at work today and thought I'd come over here to read more tonight. Patience is a good word. I pray for it all the time! I guess I didn't know I shouldn't...but I still need some. And He gives the good things...

I love that you and your boy share these words. What a precious gift.

    Sending you love, Cheri.
