A Little More Ease, Please

I love the places in my life that are at ease ...

it seems there is always a place that is rather unsettled.

Always an area being challenged, squeezed, tested, refined.

Sometimes the area is obscure to the scrutiny of others, sometimes it is visible to everyone around.

"Adversity polishes the gem," to quote my friend from Bible study (thanks Lon).

Persecution tests loyalties.

While in India, missionary Amy Carmichael quoted her team leader when they were being persecuted on the streets of India ... As the rotten food, stones, and hateful words were being thrown at them because of their faith, he exhorted his team, "This is a chance to die!"

He viewed persecution as an opportunity to share in the suffering of his Lord, Jesus Christ.

Have I really counted the cost of this faith that I desire to live?

"My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." James 1:2-4

For there to be joy in trials, grace must abound! Joy cannot be pretended ... not well. It must come from that fountain of life that gives drink to the world.

When one has joy in trials their perspective is different ... life is not about convenience, comfort, or acceptance ... joyful perspectives burst from a passion for Jesus.

Paul said, "Not that I speak from want, for I have learned to be content in whatever circumstances I am. I have learned to get along with humble means, and I also know how to live in prosperity." (Philippians 4:11)

In the present squeeze that I am in ... I am learning to be content ... whether I am in a season of ease or lack of ease. Please be patient with me during this learning process.

  1. How did I miss this post? :)

"Joy cannot be pretended ... not well." No argument there.

Feeling the squeeze myself and extending patience and love to you as I walk similar footsteps.

    Love ya,
    Joy
