They brought her to Him at the beginning of a new day. It wasn't about her, it was about Him. Their hearts were evil and they wanted to prove that He should be despised. Exposing her wrong should reveal that He was an impostor, pretending to be God.
What would Jesus do with a sinner? Would He touch the forbidden one?
He knelt in their presence, holding many words back, convicting them with quiet. Etching the sand with His finger, their sins, one by one, were exposed. He didn't condemn them, their sins condemned them, so much so that they made a choice to leave. They could have repented. They left His presence in the same state they had approached Him, unrepentant and unforgiven.
It was a new day for the woman who had been thrown at His feet that morning. She left His side walking in freedom. He had forgiven her, generously and willingly. She had been brought to Him in a sinful state, but left a new creature with hope of a sin free life.
"Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?"
"No one, sir," she said.
"Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go and leave your life of sin."
What would Jesus do with a sinner? Set them free! Bring them to Jesus . . . and let us kneel at His feet with them and repent with them, so that He can forgive us, too. |
