Fanning Into Flame

Smoldering embers lie within me waiting for the breath of God to restore the flame. Breathe on, oh breath of God, the Word of life in me, just breathe. No blow, revive, catch life before it edges away leaving behind a corpse.

I wore a twirly dress to church today, the kind that catches on the wind and threatens to play peek-a-boo with onlookers. Wind and grace made lovely on the lawn where they gather after the sermon to share corn, apples, and good words.

I meet a new friend. She wants to know about me. Why am I so interested in pictures? Take more apples she says. I focus the lens and take a picture of harvest plentiful.

Generosity fills the air. It's catching. My hands lay limp at my side, failing to reciprocate their offering. These kind souls, they bless because that is who they are.

The door is always open at the church saying you are welcome even at midnight hour. I step over the threshold and feel the hush of holy. God's people come and go from this altar but always a part of them remains "the tie that binds their hearts in Christian love."

Today I have been among the greatness of God ... His children. Tears between truth poured during the Sunday school message reveal the heart of a son. Tears from testimony. Truth born from a heart full of integrity. Their hearts are revealed, genuine love oozes from the teachers. I am moved by their integrity.

The sun bids farewell to the day. I linger in meditation waiting for embers in my soul to receive renewal. Longing to belong with those who love Him well, completely.
Drawn into prayer my heart cries, "Breathe on, oh breath of God. Restore the flame of God in me".
